The President is scheduled to meet with congressional leadership tomorrow to discuss short-term (averting a government shutdown) and longer-term funding issues (remainder of Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 funding and sequestration). The House is expected to consider a measure (H.J. Res 123) tomorrow that would extend a CR by two weeks—thereby keeping the federal government operating at current funding levels through December 22. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated his plan is for the Senate to act on this CR. However, as of today, neither congressional chamber has acted on a funding measure to avert a lapse in appropriations on Friday at midnight. And, major differences remain over overall funding levels for the remainder of FY 2018, as well as immigration and health care issues. Continue reading “Government Funding Update”
