Establishment of an Emergency Leave Transfer Program for California Wildfires

NTEU requested that HHS establish an Emergency Leave Transfer Program for HHS employees adversely affected by the California Wildfires.

ash blaze burn burningIn anticipation of employees affected by the California Wildfires needing additional paid leave, NTEU National President Tony Reardon asked Secretary Azar to establish an Emergency Leave Transfer Program (ELTP) for HHS employees who have been impacted by the California Wildfires. NTEU offered to work with HHS to solicit donations to the program.

United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) logoThe U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has the authority to establish an ELTP at the request of employing agencies for employees needing paid leave to address emergencies such as the California Wildfires. On October 3, 2018, OPM made a determination that the establishment of an ELTP is warranted for employees affected by the California Wildfires. More information can also be found at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/leave-administration/fact-sheets/emergency-leave-transfer-program/.

I will keep you informed as soon as there are any new developments to report on the ELPT. If you have any questions about the Emergency Leave Transfer Program, please contact your chapter president.
