Legislation Introduced to Provide Lifetime Coverage to Individuals Affected by OPM Data Breaches

Legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives to provide lifetime coverage to individuals affected by the 2015 OPM data breaches.

Image of digital padlocks over a digital data stream (cyber security)Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) have introduced H.R. 5765, the RECOVER Act, that would provide lifetime credit monitoring and identity theft protection to the approximately 25 million individuals compromised by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) data breaches announced in 2015. Specifically, the OPM data breaches affected 21.5 million individuals resulting from stolen background investigative materials, as well as 4.2 million current and former federal employees from compromised personnel records.
