Despite a negotiated agreement to provide more telework opportunities to ORA employees, requests are being denied with concerning frequency. Following grievances filed by several NTEU chapters, including Chapter 254, the union has requested information from the FDA regarding its telework practices. NTEU’s request included:
- a copy of each ORA quarterly communication issued to staff and management since the May 2017 date the agreement, that promotes and encourages telework, was signed;
- the number of requests for recurring telework that have been denied since May 12, 2017; and
- the number of employees in each district/division who have an approved agreement for recurring telework.
NTEU believes that the evidence will show that the agency has not taken steps to promote and encourage telework as required by the Memorandum of Understanding, and continues to baselessly deny requests for recurring telework.
Holding agencies accountable to negotiated agreements is a hallmark of NTEU representation.
