Senate Fails to Advance House-Passed CR, Triggering Shutdown

Seal of the United States SenateLast night, the U.S. Senate failed to advance (by a vote of 50-49, 60 votes being needed) the House-passed short-term Continuing Resolution (CR), H.R. 195, which would continue funding federal agencies at FY17 levels until February 16, 2018. Both the House and Senate are scheduled to be in session today to consider potential additional short-term funding measures.
