Special TSP Hardship Withdrawal Rules for Employees Impacted by Hurricanes

Information on the relaxation of Thrift Savings Plan hardship withdrawal rules for individuals affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) logoThe Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (Board) which administers the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) on behalf of federal employees, has announced special, temporary hardship withdrawal rules for TSP accounts, based upon guidance issued by the IRS, for individuals affected by recent hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The specific information and detailed instructions from the Board are posted on the TSP’s web site at https://www.tsp.gov/whatsnew/Content/index.html.

Given NTEU’s role as a member of the Board’s Employee Thrift Advisory Council, I want to be sure our members are aware of the TSP’s actions for these impacted individuals.
