On February 14, I shared with you information about the introduction of legislation that would provide six weeks of paid parental leave to federal employees. NTEU is proud to support the bipartisan House bill, H.R. 1022, sponsored by Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), and S. 362, the Senate companion bill, championed by Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI).
As Mother’s Day approaches, NTEU National President Tony Reardon has invited Ms. Trump to join us in our efforts to seek passage and enactment of this important legislation. As I shared before, when NTEU first supported the introduction of paid parental leave, we hoped that the federal government would be a leader in the larger paid parental leave movement. Ten years later, most major corporations, and even some smaller ones, provide paid parental leave for their employees. Ms. Trump has spoken positively about paid parental leave, and President Trump also mentioned it in his recent address to Congress. NTEU believes the time is right for passage of these bills.
