Members of Congress Respond to Calls for Action Regarding Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program Rate Increases

United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) logoAs a follow-up to recent posts regarding the upcoming exorbitant premium rate increases in the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLCTIP), here is a letter that Congressmen Don Beyer (D-VA), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) sent to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requesting that the current September 30 enrollee decision deadline be extended.

houseofrep232wayAs you may recall, NTEU has urged OPM and Congress to consider pushing back this rapidly approaching deadline so that FLTCIP enrollees have adequate time to determine their best options to address the dramatic rise in premiums, and for Congress to conduct oversight over OPM’s and John Hancock’s administration of the program. At this time, it is expected that a congressional hearing on FLTCIP will be held later this calendar year once Congress returns following the November election.

I will keep you updated regarding any further developments on this subject.
