The Senate Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Traditionally, this is the measure that carries the General Schedule federal employee pay raise.
As in the past three years, the bill did not include specific language on the January 2017 across-the-board pay increase, which would allow the President’s 1.6% proposed raise to go into effect in January unless further Congressional action is taken to increase or decrease the proposed raise. The FSGG appropriations bill must still be approved by the full House and Senate. The measure did include language to ensure that Wage Grade employees ultimately receive the same pay adjustment as General Schedule employees.
NTEU believes the proposed 1.6% amount is too low, and is working to secure Congressional support for a higher pay raise. NTEU supports legislation (S. 2699 and H.R. 4585) that would instead provide a 5.3% pay increase in January.
