Today, the House Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill was approved by the FSGG Subcommittee. The bill was silent on the 2017 GS pay increase, which would allow the President’s proposed 1.6% increase to go into effect in January, unless Congress takes further action to increase or decrease the proposed raise. The FSGG appropriations bill must still clear the full House Appropriations Committee as well as the Senate Appropriations Committee and be approved by the full House and Senate.
NTEU believes that the President’s proposed 1.6% increase is too low, and we have worked with supporters in the House and Senate to introduce bills (H.R. 4585 and S. 2699) that would provide federal employees with a 5.3% raise in January.
NTEU is working hard to increase Congressional support for these bills. To find out more, and see what you can do, go to www.nteu.org.
