The annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) opens this week of May 2, 2016, for all FDA permanent employees (onboard since October 2015 or before) and will remain open through the week of June 13, 2016.
This is the 11th year that OPM has administered the survey. Employee participation is voluntary and responses are confidential.
The survey asks employees for their views on their work, their agency, their supervisors, their senior leaders, their job satisfaction and work life programs such as telework. NTEU urges employees to take the survey and outline both the positive and the negative aspects of our work life. Each year, survey results demonstrate how committed federal employees are and how seriously we take our work. The survey also measures employee satisfaction across government.
Please respond candidly about the impact of inadequate pay raises, budget cuts, lack of promotional opportunities, increased workloads, and management actions on your work life.
I recognize that here in FDA, many of us express frustration that each year we take the survey and see little to no action on the results. However, please consider the following:
- If front-line employees do not take the survey, only managers will take the survey and your voice will not be heard.
- The survey results are helpful to us at the bargaining table and in labor-management forums.
- The results are also used to compile the annual “Best Places to Work” ratings, which attract significant media coverage.
- If there are issues that need to be addressed, we need to keep the pressure on.
The survey is voluntary and takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. Supervisors should give you duty time to complete the survey. Questions may be skipped and responses can be saved and completed later. Again, your responses are confidential.
Starting this week, you should receive your personalized email invitation from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) with the subject line, “2016 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey,” from, “Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey-HE” (EVHE@OPM.GOV), inviting you to complete this online, confidential survey. Please do not forward your OPM survey invitation to anyone else since the link is uniquely yours.
For more information on the FEVS, including a list of frequently asked questions and access to prior year survey results, please visit http://intranet.hhs.gov/hr/employsurvey/2016fevs.html (internal).
I also appreciate your efforts to encourage your colleagues to take the survey and ensure their voices are heard in every forum.
